There are brilliant engineers out there in the world. They are people who do amazing things with their skills and have a love for their craft. One such person is a YouTuber by the name of Kei Studio, who decided to mod the Nintendo Mini Famicom into a Game Boy look-a-like. Not sure what a Famicom is? Well, the NES Classic has a sister console, exclusive to the country of Japan, and it’s called the Mini Famicom (Family Computer).

Much like its Western counterpart, the console has 30 pre-installed games to choose from, and it is just as small. They both fit into the palm of your hand! The crucial difference being – there are titles available on the Mini Famicom that aren’t on the Classic. Want to know what they are? Check out the list below:

The miniature Family Computer is small enough as it is, but KEI STUDIO wanted to make it even smaller! Enter, the Famicom Pocket. Not only is it portable and reminiscent of a Nintendo Game Boy, but also fully functional and exquisitely made – including the ability to enjoy 2-player games via cable link. KEI STUDIO showcases their creation in a video uploaded to YouTube, which includes a step-by-step procedure on how you can make it, complete with illustrations and entertaining sound effects. This is not a cheap project by any stretch of the imagination. However, if you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind handheld console – you’re looking in the right direction. This device was created to function with chargers available in Japan, which is not guaranteed to be available in the United States or elsewhere. Inevitably, you may need to purchase imported materials – or modify it accordingly to fit US standards.

KEI STUDIO chiseled a Game Boy case, completely disassembled a Mini Famicom, extracted and reconnected adapters, and much more. It may be safe to say that they put some serious time and money into it. It’s obvious they’re not an amateur either.
