Zombieland 2 Confirmed For 2019 With Original Cast

It is hard to believe that the original Zombieland movie – featuring Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, and Woody Harrelson – is nearly ten years old. Released back in 2009, the zombie comedy flick helped refresh the zombie genre, and attracted a cameo from even the legendary Bill Murray. Now, with the ten year anniversary of the movie nearly upon us, Zombieland 2 is finally getting the green light to move ahead.

In a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, it has been confirmed that Zombieland 2 is officially moving ahead, with the original cast members reprising their roles in the sequel. The film is slotted for an October 2018 release, with Ruben Fleischer directing the script created by original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Here’s the plot summary:

The new movie will once again put the focus on comic mayhem, taking the quartet from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.”

Fans of the first movie have been clamoring for a sequel for a long time now, something Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch echoed in a recent statement. “This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail,” he said. “These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”

Zombieland 2 is expected to release in October, 2019.
