Xbox Head Phil Spencer Comments On Sony And Microsoft Collaboration

Xbox Head Phil Spencer

The past few years of the gaming industry have shown that even the biggest rivals are willing to cooperate with each other to achieve mutually beneficial goals. Crossplay continues to bridge more and more platforms to bring players and communities together, and Microsoft has even brought some of their properties like Minecraft to non-Microsoft platforms. Recently, the industry was taken aback by a surprise collaboration announced by Sony and Microsoft related to their game streaming services. Now, Xbox lead Phil Spencer has provided his thoughts on this groundbreaking initiative between the two giants.

Phil Spencer recently released the tweet seen below on his official Twitter account showing his take on this big partnership. This alliance will see Sony and Microsoft pooling their resources to make their game-streaming infrastructures as powerful and functional as possible. As Spencer puts it, he is “excited about the opportunities ahead with Sony for us to pursue our mutual gaming ambitions and delight players around the world.”

Spencer has undoubtedly been involved with Xbox’s recent moves to extend more olive branches to competitors, such as they have done with their crossplay efforts, so it would make sense for him to feel similarly positive about this work with Sony. With Sony intending to utilize the Microsoft Azure data center platform for their cloud gaming services, both will be in a prime position to compete well against the likes of Google Stadia and other upcoming cloud streaming services. While this may not mean we will see God of War or Death Stranding on Xbox, at least we know the games streamed through the cloud will operate to their best ability.
