Xbox One Keyboard And Mouse Support Arriving Next Month
Earlier this year, leaked documents revealed that Microsoft was finally working on the long overdue keyboard and mouse support for its flagship console, the Xbox One. The documents revealed that Microsoft had partnered up with gaming peripheral company Razer, the latter of which would be responsible for creating officially licensed mice and keyboards for the console. Now, it appears that their collaborative efforts are finally paying off, as keyboard and mouse support for the Xbox One is officially arriving next month.
The news comes by way of Xbox Director of Program Management Jason Ronald, who made the announcement via a new blog post on the Xbox news website. While officially licensed mice and keyboards for the Xbox One are expected to be revealed soon, “most wired or wireless USB keyboards and mice will work,” according to Ronald. Additionally, Microsoft appears to be taking a hands-off approach in terms of getting developers to utilize the new peripheral support. “With this new input support at the platform level, developers can now build mouse and keyboard support in their games if and how they choose,” Ronald explains.
It’s important to note that mouse and keyboard support for games is added on a title-by-title basis, entirely at developers’ discretion.”
To that end, the very first title that will be taking advantage of keyboard and mouse support on the Xbox One is Digital Extremes’ Warframe. According to Ronald, the title will be testing mouse and keyboard input “when the feature arrives to Insider in the coming weeks.” Here’s hoping that developers will hop on the bandwagon quickly, as there are plenty of Xbox One titles out there that would likely improve with the implementation of keyboard and mouse support.
