Xbox One Game Gifting Feature Is Coming – Available For Some Right Now
Game gifting on clients like Steam is an awesome way for friends to share the games they love with other players. Even on a more casual note – just looking for buds to play online with, it’s a quick way to get other gamers on board. Xbox One will soon be getting that feature, and the Gift Giving addition is already available for some thanks to the Preview Program.
One Redditor spotted a new option next to the usual “buy now” feature while opening up a new game in the Microsoft store. Appearing near the previously established options was the option to send the game to a friend. Immediately after the post on Reddit went live, many other Preview Members responded that they were seeing it too and that the new feature wasn’t limited to just people on your friends list. Want to shoot a game over a cool person you met online to see down on another online game? Shoot them a copy of the game. Perfect for the more casual gaming relationships on the Microsoft system.
Though Xbox is bringing the Game Gifting feature to users, that does not include Xbox Live Membership gifting, unfortunately, nor do the discounts on certain games transfer over. If one friend has Gold and the other does not, the gifter will be charged full price. Though that is a disappointment for Live members, it does make sense purely from a business perspective. By trading in games with other players at the discounted price, the need for the membership would drastically decrease which would end up hurting the company. At the end of the day, businesses are there to make money – and that’s 100% understandable.

Xbox One Game Gifting should be arriving soon for all members – for now; it’s only available for Alpha Ring Preview Members. What are your thoughts on Microsoft jumping onboard the gift giving train?
