Nearly a decade after the first installment, fans are still waiting for The Wolf Among Us 2. The Fable-based follow-up was originally announced in 2017, but the high-profile closure of Telltale Games placed the title on an indefinite hiatus before re-emerging under a newly-reformed Telltale back in 2019. Now, after the project’s long absence from headlines, a previously-promised influx of new information has now arrived alongside a tangible first trailer.

Revealed in a new livestream event hosted by The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley, The Wolf Among Us 2 is shown to bring back grizzled private eye Bigby Wolf as he recounts his most recent investigation within an anger management session. Depicting a noir-influenced cel-shaded art style, Biby’s hunt for clues sees him face to face with what appears to be the Scarecrow and Tin Man of The Wizard of Oz fame, a skirmish that inevitably results in Bigby hulking out into his beastly wolf appearance. The first footage premiere for The Wolf Among Us 2 comes after years of resurrection on the part of Telltale Games. Following the disastrous closure of the studio back in 2018, Telltale was revived the following year with a new lease on life, restarting development on its signature brand of adventure games while steering into a strict crunch-free environment. In the years since, The Wolf Among Us 2 was re-announced as the first project underway by the studio, with a second adaptation now confirmed in the form of The Expanse.

Nick Herman, co-founder and COO of co-developer AdHoc recently discussed the setting of The Wolf Among Us 2, which is confirmed to take place 6 months after the original. “Wolf 2 takes place after Snow White steps in as Deputy Mayor of Fabletown,” Herman said in a statement to Game Informer, “but Bigby is still struggling to make the transition from the typical fairytale villain to Sheriff and protector. This season explores more of the nuances and difficulties of hiding in plain sight, dealing with mostly new Fables and taking place all over New York.”

The Wolf Among Us 2 is scheduled for release sometime in 2023.
