Doug Cockle, Voice of The Witcher’s Geralt, Could Appear in Cyberpunk 2077
Other than gameplay, story, and visuals, the key to a lucrative video game also relies on the voices behind the characters. That may be one of the reasons CD Projekt RED’s (CDPR) video game franchise has been so successful, especially The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. Through three entries into the series, one man has voiced the iconic protagonist, Geralt of Rivia. That man goes by the name of Doug Cockle, and he may making an appearance in CDPR’s highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077.
For those that don’t know, CDPR’s current projekt is Cyberpunk 2077– an action-adventure RPG based on the world from the tabletop game by the same name. Given the studio’s achievements with Witcher 3, the title is becoming one of the most anticipated games for the future. Speaking at this year’s EGX (Eurogamers Expo) Doug Cockle took the time to answer questions at a panel. Obviously, fans asked about any information on The Witcher 4, but the actor replied, “I know nothing about The Witcher 4. I know they’re very much focusing on Cyberpunk.”
Cockle did, however, mention that he has discussed voice acting with the developers for the upcoming title:
What I have discussed is the idea of me being involved somehow. Whether that’s a major part or just an Easter egg. I hope so, I really enjoy working with them, but I haven’t had significant contact. We have jokingly talked about it.”
CDPR has a tendency to throw in a plethora of Easter eggs, sometimes even for other franchises (there are quite a few Game of Thrones Easter eggs in Witcher 3), so it would be unlikely that the studio would leave out Witcher references in the upcoming game. There are so many possibilities for Doug Cockle to make an appearance. An NPC bounty hunter by the name of Gerald (a common mispronunciation of Geralt’s name) is one possibility. It would be just as great if Cockle appeared in Cyberpunk as an original character that is important to the plot. Either way, the relationship between Doug Cockle and CD Projekt RED is a strong one, so it would be a safe bet to assume that he will at least make some sort of cameo.
Cyberpunk 2077 currently has no set release window, nor any information on which platforms the game will be released on. Do you hope the voice of Geralt of Rivia, Doug Cockle makes a cameo appearance in the forthcoming title? Would you rather see him take on a completely new role?
