Criterion Dev Hints at Potential VR Support for Battlefront II

VR Support

With the Star Wars Celebration 2017 finished, fans received all kinds of Star Wars news and tidbits. Most recently was prototype footage for a cancelled The Force Unleashed III. Maybe someday fans will enjoy anew Force Unleashed, for now however, all eyes are on the next Battlefront II. The game is taking on a shape similar to its original counterparts, but it’s no surprise that developers are also looking to the future with potential for VR support.

In a recent interview, Criterion Developer Matt Webster explained the current stance on the potential of VR for the future of Star Wars Battlefront II. Imagine using the technology to play out the solo campaign in full VR. The experience would be exhilarating, unfortunately Webster didn’t give any clues as to any plans for VR support saying:

We are not talking about VR at the moment for Battlefront 2. That’s a story for another day.”

VR has been done with Star Wars Battlefront, a PlayStation 4 exclusive X-Wing mission proved the team capable of handling that kind of undertaking. That being said, Battlefront II writers are ramping up the single player experience with their campaign. Whether the development team creates new missions for VR support or allows for the campaign missions to already be capable for this technology, fans will have to wait for the them to iron out the details on if and how they’ll incorporate support.

Star Wars Battlefront II is releasing  on November 17th, 2017 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game will feature a full story following Iden Versio, commander of Inferno Squad, an Imperial special forces unit. Players will encounter many of the franchise’s various characters in a story that spans 30 years. Would you like to see Star Wars Battlefront II support VR?
