Valve Has “Games In Development,” Says Gabe Newell
Valve is known for some of the best PC gaming experiences since PC gaming became more mainstream, but they haven’t done much in recent years, save for Half-Life: Alyx. That said, Gabe Newell himself has confirmed that the studio is working on more games that they will be announcing at some point in the future.
During a recent interview with 1 News, Newell covered numerous topics regarding the gaming industry, including his company, Valve. First, he touched on how some employees have an interest in relocating to New Zealand, where Newell has been staying throughout the pandemic. “You don’t want to uproot a bunch of families, have them come here, and then the situation gets a bunch better and then they have to turn around and go back,” he said. “So that’s why getting a better handle on how long the epidemic is going to be affecting our operational decisions is important to that.”
After talking about the prospect of esports tournaments also being held in New Zealand, Newell touched on the fact that Valve is currently working on games after getting a bit of drive from the release of Alyx. “We definitely have games in development that we’re going to be announcing,” Newell said. “It’s fun to ship games. Alyx was great. To be back doing singleplayer games, that created a lot of momentum inside the company to do more of that.”
In the same interview, Newell also expressed sympathy for what’s happening with CD Projekt RED and Cyberpunk 2077. You can read more about that here. As for what Valve could possibly be working on, it’s anyone’s guess at this point. Will we finally see a third installment in any of their franchises? Are they working on new IP? Only time will tell.
