Upcoming Battle.net Changes Uncovered – Offline Mode, Discord-Like Groups, and More!

Upcoming Battle.net changes

Dataminers are a crafty bunch, scouring the inner workings of our favorite programs and video games and discovering hidden treasures that would otherwise go unnoticed. One such dataminer has recently uncovered a bounty of group strings that point to potential upcoming changes to Blizzard’s Battle.net client. As of right now, the program is mainly designed to launch the company’s games and talk with friends through a basic chat function. If the findings of MMO-Champion turn out to be true, Battle.net is about to get some major upgrades.

Among the possible changes are Appear Offline Mode(something that people have wanted for quite some time), profile avatars, and even Discord-esque group functionality. Three strings in particular show what these groups might be all about. Check them out below:

  • group.welcome.groups.item1 – Groups are the social hub for you and your friends across Blizzard.
  • group.welcome.groups.item2 – Use groups to coordinate play time, discuss strats, or just hang out and chat.
  • group.welcome.groups.item3 – They’re also a great way to expand your circle of Blizzard friends.

Of course, none of this is guaranteed, but it sure would be nice to see Blizzard expand upon its basic chat function and introduce something bigger and better. Also seen in the post on MMO-Champion are icons for said groups. What better way to show what you and your friends are all about than by displaying an image depicting a favorite character or game? The likes of Destiny 2, which is set to arrive on PC later this month, can also be seen among the avatars. Maybe this is indicative of when we’ll see these changes implemented on the Battle.net client.
