New Twitter Account Says Which Video Games Let You Pet Dogs

Pet Dogs

Throughout the history of video games, dogs have been quite present throughout the pastime. Those beloved good boys have been present as far back as Duck Hunt, with more recent modern games favoring man’s best friend as a helpful – but not too overpowered – AI companion for players. Many more games seem to be including canine allies, but others, such as the recent Fallout 76, seem to be sending dogs up the farm. To help keep track, a new Twitter account has arisen to let players know which games with dogs let you pet them, and which ones don’t.

Twitter user CanYouPetTheDog recently began tweeting out photos and videos from various video games containing dogs. If the game has a dog that can be petted, such as the dog companions in Metal Gear Solid V or Red Dead Redemption 2, the account will affirmatively say that players can pet the dog in the game, as well as a clip showing the adorable interaction with the fluffy boi.

However, not all games warmly embrace those 12/10 dogs. For games that feature dogs, but do not allow the player character to pet the furry friends, the account will inform players of that failure, as well as a picture or clip of the canine in question. While this is certainly an account intended for humor, it is quite interesting to see how many games feature such a fairly unimpactful feature, at least one that has little bearing on the story or gameplay. Hopefully more games learn from this account and provide options for giving those digital dogs the lovin’ they deserve. After all they’re not just good boys. I’m told they are the best.
