Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sora Gameplay, DLC Details Revealed (VIDEO)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Kingdom Hearts Sora

After several weeks of anticipation, Sora from Kingdom Hearts has finally been revealed the final DLC coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, marking the arrival of a particularly anticipated character and the fundamental end of the game’s post-launch period. Though the addition didn’t meet everyone’s expectations, Sora certainly seems at home within the brawl by the looks of the character’s gameplay showcased during the event.

As shown in the livestream video below (starting at 8:57), Sora is shown to be a very stylish, if straightforward, addition to the Smash Bros roster. With his trusty Keyblade in hand, the character boasts a number of signature moves from his original games, comprising weapon-based melee attacks and ranged magical specials such as Fire, Thunder, and Freeze. Sora’s Final Smash attack (30:18) is particularly on-point, as it seals opponents away behind a Keyhole before it explodes behind him.

The DLC’s accompanying stage features similar references to the series, taking place on a floating platform that roams around castle Hollow Bastion from the first game. When time and stock get low, the stage also transforms into the familiar stained-glass realm Dive to the Heart, which features rotating appearances from characters from throughout the Kindom Hearts games, with representations of Sora, Riku, Roxas, Xion, Terra, Ventus, and Aqua shown during the showcase.

Sora himself also gets a bit of attention, featuring several color variations that pay homage to looks featured in the Kindom Hearts games, with P5 notably mirroring his black-and-white Timeless river design. In addition, the latest roster member for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also comes with some appropriate music tracks, with 9 series songs confirmed for the DLC. The bonus track “Dearly Beloved -Swing Version-” unlocks if the player possesses a save file for Kindom Hearts spin-off Melody of Memory. The full song list includes:

  • Blast Away! -Gummi Ship II-
  • Dearly Beloved -Swing Version- (Melody of Memory save exclusive)
  • Destati
  • Destiny’s Force
  • Hand in Hand
  • Hollow Bastion
  • Night of Fate
  • Scherzo Di Notte
  • Shrouding Dark Cloud

As of now, Challenger Pack 11, a.k.a. Kindom Hearts’ Sora, comes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on October 18th, arriving as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2 ($22.99 USD) or as a standalone fighter ($5.99 USD). In addition to everything listed so far, the new Smash Brost DLC will also introduce an assortment of new collectible in-game Spirits, featuring Sora’s allies Aqua, Axel, Kairi, Riku, Roxas, Terra, Ventus, and Xion.
