The Witcher: Blood Origin Reveals 10 New Cast Members

The Witcher: Blood Origin

As a franchise, The Witcher had long remained a fringe fantasy novel series, but in just the past few years escalated to one of the most popular multi-media franchises in the world. With The Witcher live-action series on Netflix propelling the franchise to new heights, the streaming service promptly sought to double down on the series’s success. By greenlighting not only an anime prequel, but a live-action miniseries as well, Netflix is betting hard on the expansion of The Witcher universe. Now, The Witcher: Blood Origin prequel series has announced ten new casting choices that will bring the characters to life.

Deadline reported on the new casting choices made for The Witcher: Blood Origin on Netflix, joining the already-cast leads Sophia Brown as Éile, Laurance O’Fuarain as Fjall, and Michelle Yeoh as Scian. Perhaps the best-known of the new casting choices are Lenny Henry as Balor and Mirren Mack as Merwyn. Henry previously appeared on the BBC series The Magicians, and Mack appeared in several episodes of Sex Education. Other potentially familiar faces include Jacob Collins-Levy of Doctor Who fame as Eredin and comedian Dylan Moran as Uthrok One-Nut.

Among the other new The Witcher: Blood Origin actors cast include Lizzie Annis as Zacare, Huw Novelli as Brother Death, Francesca Mills as Meldof, Amy Murray as Fenrik, Nathaniel Curtis as Brian, and Zach Wyatt as Syndril. In addition, Declan De Barra was confirmed to serve as the series’s showrunner, and that Sarah O’ Gorman and Vicky Jewson will direct episodes of the miniseries. The main Witcher series showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich will serve as an executive producer on this show, and series creator Andrzej Sapkowski will be a creative consultant. With so much talent attached to this project, it’s clear that Netflix is sparing no coins to toss to this new Witcher series.
