Outer Worlds

Obsidian Entertainment has had a hand in some impressive titles over the years such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Alpha Protocol, and Fallout: New Vegas. Soon, the developer is set to release their next major game  called The Outer Worlds and even though it isn’t quite out yet, it is time to begin looking at what the team hopes to work on next. To that end, some new job listings were recently discovered indicating that Obsidian Entertainment has a project in mind, even if it’s still a little too early to announce to the public.

It was recently discovered through LinkedIn that Obsidian Entertainment is looking to hire on some people to fill a few particular roles. Several of the listings hint that having an understanding of Unreal Engine 4 would be a bonus, though there are also multiple references to combat in the first-person perspective. The listing is also seeking applicants with exceptional melee experience as well as using action in both first and third-person. The listings also mention some RPG elements such as branching dialogues, conversations, and even cutscenes.

The listing for a Network Programmer in particular mentions that Obsidian is looking for programmers with experience in developing “network and multiplayer gameplay systems” that utilize the Unreal Engine. It’s hard to say what exactly the studio hope to accomplish, but they have mentioned in the past that they had hoped to turn The Outer Worlds into its own franchise. Perhaps a multiplayer sequel of the upcoming title is being looked at. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what the studio can come up with next.

The Outer Worlds is set to release on October 25th for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The title will also be intended for the Nintendo Switch however there has yet to be a release date announced for that version of the game.
