The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Sequel Delay Confirmed

Breath of the Wild sequel Delay

As the pandemic has greatly affected many aspects of the gaming industry over the past two years, perhaps the most visible repercussion has been the delay of many major video game projects. This has occurred more frequently since the start of the pandemic due to complications coming from development teams largely working remotely. One particular game that fans have been eagerly waiting for now for years has been the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. However, it appears that the sequel will need more time, as Nintendo has confirmed a delay for the game that pushes back its release date.

Nintendo recently released a new statement and video regarding The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel on its official YouTube account. The video features the Legend of Zelda series producer and one of the most prominent creative forces behind the Zelda franchise, Eiji Aonuma, acknowledging the development team’s intent to release the game in 2022, but complications with development have necessitated a delay. Aonuma then confirmed the sequel is now slated for a release sometime in Spring 2023, apologizing to those expecting the game to launch this year.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 Update

The video then shows footage from the sequel, reiterating previously confirmed details about the game taking place not only in the same version of Hyrule from Breath of the Wild, but will also feature new sky-based areas for the player to explore. Link is then seen exploring these sky areas through his glider and what seem to be reverse-gravity and phasing abilities. Confirmed by Aonuma, new encounters and gameplay experiences will also happen in the Breath of the Wild sequel, but these will require more development time. While this delay may disappoint some fans, at this point, it should not be too surprising. The first Breath of the Wild game saw several delays but ultimately proved to be well worth the wait. Hopefully, the sequel lives up to that tradition as well.
