While many have found staying in their homes to be a boring time during the coronavirus pandemic, video game enthusiasts have found plenty of new and classic titles to keep them occupied during the long weeks. One upcoming title that many were looking forward to was The Last of Us Part II, which sadly saw a delay due to the pandemic. Recently, though, a new June release date for the game was confirmed, albeit after an unknown source leaked a significant amount of information about the game, including major spoilers. Sony has now identified The Last of Us Part II leak source, and it seems to discredit many of the most prevailing theories.

Sony has reportedly disclosed to Polygon that the person responsible for the abundance of information related to The Last of Us Part II leak has been identified. As one might expect, various theories abounded as to who this mysterious leaker was. Many outside of the company were under the impression that it was a disgruntled employee that leaked the information, given Naughty Dog’s reported history of poor working conditions in the past. However, it seems that this was not the case, as Sony states:

SIE has identified the primary individuals responsible for the unauthorized release of TLOU2 assets. They are not affiliated with Naughty Dog or SIE. We are unable to comment further because the information is subject to an on-going investigation. We’re looking forward to when The Last of Us Part II will be in your hands and can’t wait for you to enjoy the full experience on June 19.”

So it would seem that it was not a Naughty Dog employee behind this. Sony did not share who the individual is, given the ongoing investigation of the leak, but this does help cast the light off of allegations related to Naughty Dog’s work environment for the time being. Time will tell who the real culprit was, but for now, fans await The Last of Us Part II’s new release date of June 19th. Thankfully, that is just a few clicks away.
