The Last Of Us Part 2 Reveals Special Edition PS4 Pro Based On Ellie's Tattoo (VIDEO)

With Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 slated to release in less than a month, Sony has decided to turn things up a few notches by revealing a limited edition The Last of Us Part 2 PS4 Pro console with designs based on Ellie’s fern tattoo. Revealed earlier today, the bundle comes with the PS4 Pro console and controller, a Seagate 2TB hard drive, a wireless headset, and a physical copy of The Last of Us Part 2. The bundle also comes with a few codes to redeem digital content such as a special PS4 dynamic theme and avatars.

Sony recently took to its PlayStation Blog website to announce the details of the new bundle. According to Sony, the bundle features a special matte finish engraved with Ellie’s tattoo design, while the controller – which can be purchased separately – features a Steel Black matte finish with similar detailing. The headset features a black and red finish and can also be purchased separately. Check out the quick reveal trailer for the bundle below:

According to Naughty Dog art director John Sweeney, the decision to design the console around Ellie’s tattoo was entirely based on early fan reactions to said design. “When we first revealed The Last of Us Part 2, we had no idea how quickly fans would embrace Ellie’s tattoo,” Sweeney said. “Within a day, we started seeing real-life versions showing up on social media and fans have been sharing photos of their new tattoos with us week after week ever since.”

When the opportunity arose to create a custom PS4 Pro for The Last of Us Part II, I worked with our graphic designer at the time, Angel Garcia, and we considered a few different ideas, but we kept coming back to Ellie’s tattoo. By that point, it had become a symbol of the game and for the community–much like the Firefly logo in the first game. It was the clear choice, but we wondered: what if it could be engraved? It hadn’t been done before, so we weren’t sure it was even possible, but thanks to the incredible efforts of the teams at PlayStation, we found a way. “

The PS4 Pro bundle will be available for purchase for $399.99 starting on June 19, the same day as the release date for The Last of Us Part 2. For those in the US that are looking to potentially snag the bundle for free, Boulevard Brewing Co. is running a promotion featuring specially marked six-packs of its new Space Camper Cosmic IPA, with the company giving away 10 bundles to lucky purchasers.
