The Last Of Us Canceled Animated Movie Images Revealed

Those of us that have played through Naughty Dog’s masterpiece video game ‘The Last of Us’ will likely still remember many of the title’s more memorable experiences. Quiet moments between Joel and Ellie, the more hectic trials and tribulations the pair had to overcome, even the more humorous moments when Ellie told jokes out of her book. While it may be difficult to picture the story taking place beyond the realm of the PS4, it has been revealed that there was at one point an animated film being developed that would have told the story of The Last of Us in a new light.

As reported by Nerd4.Life (via IGN), the folks over at animation studio Oddfellows uploaded a set of images to their portfolio page showing off the result of their efforts in a collaboration with Sony to create a “strong bridge” between the original The Last of Us and its upcoming sequel. The film was supposed to act as a “previously on” sort of thing that would help those that never played the original game pick the sequel up with ease. Check out some of the images below:

“In anticipation of The Last of Us II, we were asked to create a compelling short film depicting the main characters Joel and Ellie as they retell their dramatic story chronicled in the original game,” the studio revealed. “Our proposal was to reinterpret each of the chapters of the game with a unique visual treatment. Using singular narrative devices would allow us to bridge the styles and travel seamlessly between the past and present. Ultimately Sony decided not to move forward with this project.”

It’s sad to hear that Sony decided to cancel the project, though at least we can still enjoy the fruits of the studio’s labors. Some work in progress shots and all of the revealed stills can be seen right here.

The Last of Us Part II is slated to release on May 29th, 2020 for the PlayStation 4.
