The Elder Scrolls Online’s Greymoor Prologue Chapter Is Free To Play For A Limited Time

The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to return to the realm of Skyrim for the next expansion Greymoor, touting several big additions for the forthcoming year-long ‘Dark Heart of Skyrim’ storyline. Alongside the debut of new explorable areas, an Antiquities system, as well as essentially vampires, the online fantasy RPG will put out quite the bevy of new content designed to be enjoyed by both new and returning players. Ahead of the expansion’s release next month, Zenimax Online Studios is now giving anyone the chance to get in on the action, making a sliver of Greymoor free to play for a limited time.

Revealed on the game’s official website, The Elder Scrolls Online is letting all newbies play the base game – as part of the ESO Free Play Event – as well as the Greymoor Chapter Prologue for free through April 13th. Previously only open to those who already owned the game, this Free play event is now available to all on Mac, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam, albeit with a few caveats. Firstly, console players are required to have PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold to participate in the trial, while the Steam version is set to be shortened by a few days and come to a close on April 6th.

As covered by Prima Games, the Greymoor Prologue event debuted in tandem with a new story trailer, the footage teasing the arrival of numerous death-bringing creatures threatening to upend Skyrim. “Descend into the Dark Heart of Skyrim and defend Tamriel against a new supernatural threat,” the description reads. “Play the free Greymoor Prologue now and experience the year-long adventure that began in Harrowstorm and continues with the upcoming Greymoor Chapter and beyond. Join Lyris Titanborn in investigating the foul machinations of the Icereach Coven and uncover a deathly plot that threatens to consume the home of the Nords.”

Those interested in a bit of ye olde questing can do so right now on the aforementioned platforms. If The Elder Scrolls Online hasn’t been one’s cup of tea as of yet, now would seem to be the perfect time to finally give the game a go. By temporarily releasing a free trial, Bethesda and Zenimax are clearly hoping to hook as many new players as possible as the game heads back to the familiar Skyrim locale from The Elder Scrolls V. With at least a year’s worth of story content already lined up for the expansion, it looks like this return is going to be of the extended variety.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor is set to release for Mac and PC on May 18th, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One receiving the expansion on June 2nd.
