The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor Announced, Skyrim Returns (VIDEO)
In the several years since The Elder Scrolls Online launched, the multiplayer title has been offering fans numerous expansions exploring the various locales of Tamriel, including the likes of the Summerset Isles, a necromancer-savvy Elsweyr, as well as Vvardenfell from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It appears that fans will soon be returning to another familiar locale for the new Greymoor expansion as ESO has announced an all-new extended adventure in “The Dark Heart of Skyrim.”
As detailed by developer Zenimax Online Studios (via PlayStation Blog), Greymoor is set to return players to the region of Western Skyrim, though, occurring “some 1000 years” before the events of The Elder Scrolls V. This more ancient Skyrim will allow players to explore “the cold wilderness that surrounds the city of Solitude” as well as the “massive underground region of Blackreach;” providing “a familiar but different land from the one [players have] explored previously, filled with new quests, delves, world bosses, and more.”
Apparent by the epic announcement trailer above, Greymoor will also introduce supernatural occurrences called “harrowstorms,” which spawn all manner of “dark beasts” and “monstrous vampires” from “the depths below Solitude.” Players are tasked to “help the besieged Nords” investigate and “put a stop to these dark events” as well as “discover the ancient evil at their heart.” A new Antiquities system also debuts alongside the expansion, giving players the necessary archeologist skills to “scry and uncover ancient relics from all over the continent,” and the means to “unearth fantastic new items and collectibles in your quest to discover Tamriel’s hidden history.”
This huge happening is part of a new year-long “Dark Heart of Skyrim” saga in The Elder Scrolls Online, which will focus on several expansions set within Tamriel’s Old Kingdom. ESO’s Harrowstorm DLC in March is planned as the start of the expansive adventure, with the storyline continuing through to Greymoor and concluding with two more undisclosed chapters set for respective releases in Q3 and Q4 2020. While the new Skyrim saga will present an overarching narrative, each chapter is touted as “a complete adventure in its own right, and how you choose to play each new release in 2020 is entirely up to you!”
The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor is set to release for Mac and PC on May 18th, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One receiving the expansion on June 2nd.
