Star Wars Resistance Trailer Arrives (VIDEO)

Star Wars Resistance

“More Star Wars” used to be one of the greatest combinations of words in the English language. Some people have grown fatigued by the endless content, but diehards like myself always welcome new additions. Yesterday, Disney dropped the first look trailer for their next animated series in the franchise, Star Wars Resistance.

Star Wars Resistance focuses on aspiring pilot Kazuda Xiono (played by Christopher Sean). Xiono joins the Resistance to serve as a spy against the evil First Order. Along the way, he is tutored by ace pilot Poe Dameron and faces off against Captain Phasma. Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie are confirmed to voice their respective roles in the show, which takes place before the events of The Force Awakens.

The show clearly draws its stylistic inspiration from anime, which offers a fresh look at the galaxy far, far away. The material itself also varies drastically from the Star Wars films and the Clone Wars show. When compared with the new Clone Wars trailer, Star Wars Resistance seems positively upbeat about the struggle against the First Order. Jokes fly, and the cast reflects this lighthearted take on Star Wars. Voice actors include Bobby Moynihan (SNL), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), and Jim Rash (Community). That’s a strong list of comedians, which could make this the funniest Star Wars property to date.

I absolutely loved The Last Jedi, but some of the more recent Star Wars content has let me down. My beloved Battlefront II continues to putter along without any updates, though DICE has promised an updated roadmap for next week. Solo barely registered with me, apart from Donald Glover’s inspired take on Lando and Chewie serving as a real character rather than a pet. I’m cautiously optimistic that Star Wars Resistance will receive the proper attention that any entry in this franchise deserves.

Star Wars Resistance premieres October 7 on the Disney Channel.

What do you think of the upbeat take on Star Wars? Do you think the huge list of comedians will pay off for Disney? Let us know in the comments! For more gaming and entertainment news, be sure to follow DFTG on Facebook and Twitter!
