Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Will Keep Violence Censored For Disney

Microsoft’s Xbox Briefing that was held just prior to E3 2019 was chock full of exciting trailers and reveals, with Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order getting its first meaty gameplay trailer during the proceedings. While the trailer itself was quite stunning, some of the combat scenes seemed a bit…well, hollow. Apparently there’s a reason for that, as it has been revealed that the folks over at Respawn Entertainment have had to censor the violence within the game for Disney.

In a recent interview with IGN, Star Wars: The Clone Wars story artist Drewry Carvin spoke about the relationship with Disney, stating that the Mouse House is very picky when it comes to what can and can’t happen within the Star Wars universe. “One of the rules we were given was to always hide the cut in case of decapitation,” Carvin said. “And never show blood. The burn of the lightsaber is supposed to cauterize it instantly.” Naturally, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order will be expected to adhere to the same rule set, which means that no dismemberment is allowed unless we’re talking about droids.

Naturally there will be some outcry for this, though many developers have turned out some impressive titles that haven’t suffered the least bit for toned down violence. We can only hope that Respawn does everything it can within the restrictions set for it, and that it’ll be enough.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order launches on November 15, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
