Square Enix Lessens Its Plans For PAX East 2020, Final Fantasy XIV Events Canceled
It looks like Square Enix is following in PlayStation’s footsteps regarding its upcoming scheduled events for PAX East 2020. Earlier this week, Sony released a statement announcing that it had decided to cancel its participation at PAX East, citing increased concerns related to the coronavirus. Now, it appears that Japanese publisher Square Enix has chosen to follow suit, scaling back its involvement and canceling three Final Fantasy XIV events that were slated to take place next weekend in Boston.
As reported on the official Final Fantasy XIV website, Square Enix has chosen to cancel its three Final Fantasy XIV events, which include multiple signing sessions and a panel that would have taken a “look behind the screen” at some of the artwork for the game. Here’s the full breakdown of the canceled events courtesy of Square Enix:
- Panel Session: The Artwork of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Look Behind the Screen
We will be cancelling the on-stage panel session due to the absence of the staff members who were scheduled to attend. However, we will be hosting a livestream live from Japan (in English & Japanese) that our fans can view on Saturday, February 29 at 8:00 PM ET on the FINAL FANTASY XIV Twitch channel. - Developer Signing Sessions & Photo Opp
We will be cancelling the signing sessions and photo opportunities, scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1. - Fan Gathering
We have also cancelled our planned PAX East fan gathering event, slated for Friday, February 28. We are looking forward to hosting future fan gatherings in North America and we’ll share more details on dates and locations in the future.
One thing to note is that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV booth on the show floor will still be present, so fans will be able to take part in the Ruby Weapon battle challenge, the New Player Experience, and photo opportunities. Those looking to participate should do so earlier in the weekend, though, as the booth tends to run out of reward t-shirts for completing the battle challenge.
