This past spring a teaser from Insomniac Games suggested that Venom might be making an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man PS4 game. With a full-length feature film on the way, it makes sense that Sony might want to cash in on the hype by including the iconic villain in the title. Now it would seem that it’s possible the symbiotic beast may not be in the game at all.

It would appear on the surface that, according to the Spider-Man art director Jacinda Chew, Venom may not be in the coming title. When a fan asked about how big Venom would be in the title, their response was a bit cryptic and possibly disappointing. Here is what she had to say about Eddie Brock and his symbiote in response:

Of course, depending on how Venom does at the box office, the character may get its own game. Considering the hype Marvel Comics has placed on the symbiote in their expansive universe lately, the character may be too big for the game after all. This isn’t the only reason the character might not make the cut.

Spider-Man already features a whole host of villains from the Sinister Six and a mystery villain that hasn’t been revealed yet (thought speculated to be Doctor Octopus). Adding Venom to the mix may be a bit much for their first shot at the franchise. There is also the possibility that Venom will get a DLC later down the line as Insomniac has yet to open up about future plans for the title. Regardless, fans will get the chance to find out all of the secrets on September 7th as Spider-Man swings to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
