Spider-Man PS4 Will Not Scale Enemies, Says Insomniac

Spider-Man PS4 Release Date

With Spider-Man PS4 only a month away, players have begun asking the most important questions. We’ve learned that the game will feature Silver Sable and Kingpin, but not Venom. Stealth will serve as an essential skill, whether you’re playing as Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, or someone else. We now also have confirmation of one essential detail: enemies will not scale to player level.

For those not in the know, scaling means increasing enemy health and damage rather than building new types of villains. Scaling allows developers to save money, but also relegates players to a repetitive system of gameplay. Unlike Destiny 2 or the majority of Bethesda games, Spider-Man PS4 will not scale their enemies. A fan of the series asked developer Insomniac Games about the issue, and they quickly responded in the negative.

Insomniac Spider-Man PS4 Scaling

The idea that “threats grow over the course of the game” provides optimism. Does this mean that enemies will get considerably stronger or gain new weaponry? Will players have to take on considerably more foes at any given time? Or will we have to battle against an entirely new class of baddie? Spider-Man has one of the largest galleries of enemies in all of comics. Crafting new henchmen in the image of a super villain would solve the issue of scaling while staying true to the universe.

Insomniac is making the right call in this situation. Scaling enemies is cheap and lazy at best, insulting to players at worst. Doing a game properly means making sure players have the most fulfilling experience they possibly can. That means crafting a wide range of enemies to take down and not resorting to outdated cost cutting measures.

You can play Spider-Man PS4 on September 7th. If you desire the truest Spider-Man experience, you can pre-order the Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle now.

What say you, gamers? Are you relieved at the lack of scaling? What do you think Insomniac means by their growing threats comment? Let us know below, and follow DFTG on Twitter and Facebook for more gaming updates!
