Spider-Man Far From Home has finally arrived to theaters this week, and it has been quite the hit with audiences and critics alike. The movie comes hot off of the groundbreaking Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated film and the impressive Spider-Man PS4 game. With both of these being Sony projects, both paid homage to each other, with a Spider-Verse costume in the PS4 game and the new Spider-Man PS4 costume appearing in Homecoming. The PS4 game also released new Far From Home outfits recently, and thankfully, Spider-Man Far From Home returned the favor, albeit in a subtle way. Spoilers below for the film:

Many team members from Insomniac Games recently went to a group showing of Spider-Man Far From Home. Several key lead creatives behind the Spider-Man PS4 game, including Mike Yosh and Mary Kenney, shared photos from the showing on their official Twitter accounts. Kenney confirmed with her tweet that one moment in the film was indeed specifically meant as a sly reference to their PS4 game.

The final scene in the film shows Peter and MJ returning to New York from their European vacation and going out on their first web swing together as a dating couple. On the way to pick up MJ, Spidey is seen swinging throughout the city whilst texting MJ. At one point he uses the phone to take a selfie, and he makes the same pose that Spidey makes by default when taking a selfie in photo mode in the PS4 game. It’s a subtle nod that most audiences might not realize, but the Insomniac team recognized it immediately. It’s great to see the MCU pay tribute to what is undoubtedly one of the best Marvel video games ever. Hopefully, we get to see Peter rock the PS4 outfit some time in the future of the MCU. For those that know the end credit scenes, the plot very well might share some similarities with the game’s climax. I would pay top dollar for those photos-err…films of Spider-Man.
