Smash Bros-Like Nick All-Star Brawl Details SpongeBob Moveset (VIDEO)

Nick All-Star Brawl SpongeBob

The upcoming toon-themed fighting game Nick All-Star Brawl has revealed a hefty showcase featuring SpongeBob Squarepants. Highlighting a full range of the character’s “all-around” moveset, SpongeBob’s maneuvers reference quite a bit of the yellow critter’s history, featuring his red Karate gear, bubble blowing prowess, as well as the helicopter-like Hydro-Dynamic Spatula from the series’ classic pilot. Considering the character’s frequent source of memes, we also see attacks based on the “imagination” rainbow and a glorious “Mocking SpongeBob” taunt.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was first revealed in July, boasting all-out fighting gameplay very reminiscent of the Super Smash Bros. series. While franchises like Sony’s PlayStation All-Stars have attempted to replicate Nintendo’s mega-successful crossover in the past, GameMill’s cartoony brawler looks like it may have an edge. Developed by Ludosity and Fair Play Labs, the project notably features a comparably iconic lineup of Nickelodeon characters and is underway by the makers of Slap City, an indie title well regarded for its snappy Smash-like gameplay.

By the looks of this new SpongeBob showcase, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is aiming to replicate the Nintendo fighter on more than a superficial level. The variety of creative offense/evasion maneuvers and specials on display is priming the game to be a contender for Smash enthusiasts, one that could feasibly spark an All-Star Brawl competitive scene. Aspirations aside, the Nick-themed fighter is certainly collecting characters in a similar manner to Smash, currently boasting 16 confirmed fighters, with more to be unveiled in the future:

  • April O’Neil (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
  • CatDog (CatDog)
  • Danny Phantom (Danny Phantom)
  • Helga (Hey Arnold!)
  • Leonardo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
  • Lincoln Loud (The Loud House)
  • Lucy Loud (The Loud House)
  • Michelangelo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
  • Nigel Thornberry (The Wild Thornberrys)
  • Oblina (Aaahh!!! Real Monsters)
  • Patrick Star (SpongeBob SquarePants)
  • Powdered Toast Man (Ren & Stimpy)
  • Reptar (Rugrats)
  • Sandy Cheeks (SpongeBob SquarePants)
  • SpongeBob SquarePants (SpongeBob SquarePants)
  • Zim (Invader Zim)

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl releases October 5th for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
