Sega Mini Console May Be Announced With “New Project” Reveal
While the most wanted gaming technology tends to be the most evolved and powerful, sometimes in recent years, the most in-demand tech has been that which seeks to go back to the simpler past of gaming history. The primary form this has taken in recent years has been the mini console, with the big game console companies taking digital collections of games from their past and putting them onto smaller versions of their older consoles. Sega has especially been prolific in doing so with their classic arcade and console games. Now, Sega has teased a “new project” reveal that could be a new Sega mini console.

Sega has released a new tweet on their official Twitter account announcing a “new project” reveal presentation coming soon. The tweet specifically states that the presentation will be made at 7 a.m. ET on June 3rd. During the presentation, it is confirmed that Hiroyuki Miyazaki and Yosuke Okunari specifically will be on-hand to make the mystery announcement. The only other things included with the tweet are the link for the livestream, as well as a photo of what appears to be a chocolate treat shaped like a Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive controller.
Many people have reacted to this tweet to speculate what the “new project” might be. Some have pointed out that Miyazaki and Okunari had previously worked on the Sega Genesis Mini that released back in 2019. With this console already covered by Sega, and the Saturn being not the most fondly remembered, that essentially leaves them with the Sega Dreamcast as the next likely Sega mini console. It is not yet known what games would be on such a hypothetical mini console, but it would likely be Sega’s first-party titles from the console primarily. Whatever this mystery project ends up being, it has for now sparked the delight and hope of Dreamcast loyalists. Hopefully it makes them more excited than Seaman when his owner pays him their daily visit.
