Secret of Mana Producer Hints At A Potential Nintendo Switch Port
Fans of Secret of Mana were thrilled to hear that Square Enix was working on a remake of the popular RPG. Unfortunately when it was announced it was revealed that it was being released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC, but not for the Nintendo Switch. Given that the first three entries of the series were Nintendo exclusives, one would think that the Secret of Mana remake would be coming to the Switch. Apparently a Switch version was never in the cards, according to Secret of Mana producer Masaru Oyamada.
In a recent interview with DualShockers, the Secret of Mana producer revealed that the development for the remake began roughly two years ago, just after the team finished working on Adventures of Mana for the PlayStation Vita. At that time, the Nintendo Switch hadn’t been announced, which explains why the team hadn’t planned on a port for it. Here’s the breakdown from Oyamada:
I should give you a bit of a background on how this title came to be. The planning phase for Secret of Mana Remake was approximately two years ago after we finished the remake of Adventures of Mana on PlayStation Vita. At that time the Switch hadn’t been announced yet as a platform, so it wasn’t included in our original plans.
However, after we had announced this game in all regions, we received a lot of feedback from people requesting a Switch version. We were actually surprised to hear the number of responses to the Switch version. We’ve heard their voices and we are trying to figure out if there’s anything we can do. With that said, our focus right now is on the PS4, PS Vita, and PC versions.”
Thankfully, it appears that Oyamada and his team haven’t completely ruled out a Nintendo Switch version of the Secret of Mana remake. Once the dust settles on the title’s February 15 release date, here’s hoping everything works out behind the scenes and brings the remade classic back to Nintendo.
