Former Halo And Battlefield Devs Announce New Game: Scavengers (VIDEO)
The deck is stacked in favor of new indie game developer studio Midwinter Entertainment. Featuring industry veterans from franchises such as Halo, Battlefield, and Call of Duty, the studio is a veritable super-group of talent and experience, and it has announced its very first game: Scavengers.
Touted as a survival shooter co-opetition experience a la Halo 5’s Warzone mode, Scavengers takes place in the not-so-distant future where a cataclysmic event has triggered a new ice age. Teams of players will be tasked with competing not only against other teams, but also against armies of AI that will not discriminate between one group and another.
Not unlike the rebooted Tomb Raider games, Scavengers will combine gameplay elements such as survival, exploration, and combat, while additionally keeping a focus on teamwork and co-op game mechanics. Check out the video for a look at some of the concept art from the game, as well as some insight from the Midwinter Entertainment devs:
In order to run such an ambitious title, Scavengers will be built with Unreal Engine and powered by Improbable’s SpatialOS platform. By utilizing SpatialOS, gameplay will be divided up between multiple servers within the cloud, all of which will trickle in to help maintain the world of Scavengers.
Players will begin each game by equipping their scavenger, exploring the wilds, fighting and allying with other human players to complete objectives, gathering resources and battling against AI-controlled enemy factions. Large and unpredictable AI populations, combined with the balance of co-operation and competition between human players, will create rich, repeatable gameplay.”
Scavengers is still very early in its development stages, though the premise of the game, if executed properly by the studio’s wealth of talent, promises to be an absolute must-buy. DFTG will keep eyes on the studio and report back as Scavengers goes through its development cycle.
