A Possible New Live-Action Rurouni Kenshin Movie Could Be Happening

Every month it seems that there is news of a new live-action adaptation of a beloved anime. With the recent Death Note rendition and the Full Metal Alchemist in the line-up, it’s definitely an interesting time to be an anime fan. Now those that fell in love with the popular manga/anime Rurouni Kenshin could potentially be seeing their own live-action once more in the form of a fourth film.

The new report of the possible upcoming film comes from Daily Sports and if their sources are correct, the fourth film following Keishi Otomo’s trilogy was already in its development stages. Apparently the leak comes from an article regarding actress Emi Takei. Fans may recognize her for her portrayal as Kaoru Kamiya, the female lead in the Rurouni Kenshin series.

What leads inquiring minds into thinking that a fourth film may be under way is a recent controversy surrounding the actress with what would otherwise be happy news. Takei recently announced that she are her husband are expecting their first baby, which is in direct conflict with her ongoing contract.

Her current contract with Oscar Promotions is currently in talks with the actress about the repercussions of breaking said contract, including that of her potential role in the upcoming film. Because Takei’s character is such a fundamental part of the series’ narrative, her role “cannot be written out,” which is causing a lot of uproar about her involvement and what this next step in her private life means for her professionally.
