Longtime YouTube celeb Joe Penna, aka MysteryGuitarMan, is well known for his incredibly creative videos. Getting his start in 2006, a year after YouTube hit the scene, he was quick to post a few clips of the Rubiks Cube. Multiple videos since then have featured the popular brain teaser, and thanks to a Reddit post an impressive animation he did has resurfaced.

The clip from 2015 features an animation created with the Rubiks Cube, 1,296 mini cubes to be exact. It took him and three others four weeks to create the video, and they had to solve many of the cubes totaling 961 solves. In the video below we follow a robot as he travels to space:

As seen in the video above, on the outer edges of the animation viewers can see where unused cubes are being shifted around, showing that their work is legitimate. In the animated short the robot travels to space, crash lands, meets a robot dog, falls in love with another lady robot, abandons the dog, and launches out into space again. This Rubiks Cube video proves, perhaps once and for all, that even a robot can love.

The incredible video was estimated to take 130 hours with 4 people, which come out to about five and a half days of work to make this clip. Ultimately this shows how creative a lot of people are out there, making animations with Rubiks Cube toys sounds like a taxing job, but we’re glad someone did it.
