Respawn IP Job Listing Suggests New Series From Apex Legends Studio

New Respawn IP

Several developers have grown into powerful portions of the gaming industry in recent years, with one of the biggest rises coming from Respawn Entertainment. Formed by former Infinity Ward employees Jason West and Vince Zampella in 2010, Respawn Entertainment started off their independent studio with a bang with Titanfall. With the successful launches of Apex: Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order last year, Respawn entered their tenth anniversary in 2020 on exceedingly solid footing. Now, a new Respawn IP would appear to be in the works, with the studio looking for new talent to help bring it to life.

New Respawn IP

Respawn Entertainment recently released a new job listing on its official website for a Generalist Software Engineer. The position listing specifically details the position will be for an incubation team solely dedicated to developing a new Respawn IP. The incubation team will be small, so this new IP may be in its infancy or perhaps smaller in scale compared to Apex Legends or Jedi: Fallen Order. The listing further describes the position’s responsibilities as:

  • Investigate and solve challenges in all areas of development – whether it be gameplay, tools, audio, rendering, art, animation, AI, VFX, networking… or something unanticipated!
  • Empower teammates to use their strengths to their fullest, such as by collaborating to build useful tools, mentoring others, and tending to team health & culture.
  • While everyone has an area of focus, building a great game and fostering a great overall development experience is everyone’s responsibility.
  • Active participation in promoting and building an inclusive work environment.

The new Respawn IP job listing also reiterates the developer’s slogan “adventuring forever”, which could also indicate this game including adventure elements. The listing also confirms that Respawn has a “hard-zero policy against crunch and overtime,” which has become an important area of concern this past year after several cases of crunch causing controversy in the gaming industry. Whatever this new IP ends up being, it is quite clear that Respawn has no signs of slowing down or shrinking in size any time soon. The studio’s Apex has yet to come and its games will be the stuff of Legends one day.

What do you guys think this new Respawn IP might be, based on the new job listings alone? Could it be yet another Titanfall spin-off or maybe something new entirely?
