New Resident Evil 2 Details Leak, Including New Game Mode

Resident Evil 2

The Resident Evil 2 remake’s 1-shot demo has finally been released, which means players have been diving into 30 minutes of the upcoming title. That is, of course, unless you have gone the route of working around the time restriction.

That said, others have been doing their best to dig into the files of the demo to possibly uncover secrets regarding the remake. Thanks to ResetEra, we might have a better idea as to what we can expect in the game. While it is a remake of sorts, Capcom has stated that some things outside of the updated visuals will certainly be different. (WARNING: Possible spoilers lie ahead)

According to the post, which can be seen right here, there are seemingly two available playthroughs for both Leon and Claire, much like the original game. There are also plenty of references to a “Rogue” mode, but it’s noted that this could just be “RE.net’s stat tracker.” A reference to a new game plus mode is also hanging out in the files, which wouldn’t be too obscure. After all, Resident Evil 2 is definitely on the shorter side in regards to completing it, so adding a new game plus mode could certainly work.

What is really interesting, however, is the inclusion of Ethan Winters in the list of characters in the game. Many of you know Winters from Resident Evil 7, so what would he be doing in the upcoming remake? Resident Evil 2 takes place well before 7, which would make Ethan roughly 14 years old. Was he in Raccoon City when things went to chaos?

Plenty more goodies are within the game files, including the weapons featured in the game, as well as map areas and more. Of course, as it is with all leaks, keep the salt handy. We’ll soon be getting our hands on Resident Evil 2 when it drops on January 25th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
