Nintendo Discusses Possible Red Dead Redemption 2 Nintendo Switch Port

While Nintendo Switch owners have been quite occupied by the new release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, gamers that prioritized other consoles are still likely engulfed in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Given the immense popularity of the game, many have wondered whether or not the latest massive project released by Rockstar Games would have any chance of appearing on the hybird console. While things are somewhat quiet on Rockstar’s end, some insight on the possibility of a Red Dead Redemption 2 Nintendo Switch port has been given by none other than Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke with Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime where he provided many comments about the success of the Nintendo Switch, and gave hints at possible future titles for the console. One such title discussed was Red Dead Redemption 2, which many have hoped to see come to the hybrid home/portable Switch console. When asked if Nintendo would like Red Dead 2 on the Switch, Reggie said the following on the matter:

We’d love for it to be there. But again — and this is where there needs to be an understanding of just the development process — Red Dead has been in development for years, time that predated any communication of Nintendo Switch. So, from the developer’s mentality, they need to move forward and finish the game they’ve been working on and then be in a position to look at other opportunities. Any game from a key third-party that’s coming out now, typically that development started well before any conversations about Nintendo Switch. What happens moving forward? We’ll see. But that’s how you wind up with a situation with Red Dead not being available on our platform.”

It would seem that Nintendo is more than eager to have the hit Rockstar game on their platform, but they recognize the challenges Rockstar will have trying to properly adapt the game to the Switch’s limitations. Granted, the studio could find a non-traditional way to make the game work, such as turning it into cloud-based software,  so there could still be hope for potential Western fans to get their cowpoke fix on the Switch.
