WATCH: Latest Ready Player One Featurette Is A Glimpse Into The Impending Future

From the creative genius of Ernest Cline and the collaborative work between him and director Steven Spielberg, the upcoming science-fiction film may very well be a hit in the box office. Even so, is there a future to be told? In the latest Ready Player One featurette release by Warn Bros., Spielberg states that the story is an “amazing flash forward and flashback” of a reality everyone currently resides in. Seen below, both creator and director express their take on the very possibility of this film transpiring in the real world.

Speaking on the parallels that can be seen in the upcoming film juxtaposed with modern reality, Spielberg says that he “saw a future that Ernest Cline, the writer of the book, envisioned.” As a matter of fact, it doesn’t seem like a faraway reality either. “There’s a dystopian society and the fabric of our economy is crumbling – it’s a good time to escape,” he said, speaking on the film’s plot centered around the OASIS program. “Virtual reality will be a super drug.”

In the Ready Player One featurette titled “See The Future”, Spielberg narrates a majority withuts and pans between both him and creator Cline. There are the tasteful inclusion of action-packed scenes and a rehash of the original trailer released. For more on the plot, the official synopsis is as follows:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.”
