Razer Reveals Its High-End Android Gaming Phone For ‘Ultimate Mobile Entertainment’ (GALLERY)

Razer's Android Gaming Phone

In a long-expected move by Razer, the gaming peripheral manufacturer has announced its first foray into the smartphone business with its high-end Android gaming phone, simply titled ‘The Razer Phone’. As with all Razer products, it comes jam-packed with high-quality components designed to make its competitors weep salty, salty tears. That said, despite it being Razer’s first attempt at making a mobile device, the company truly seems to have gone all out on raising the bar for future mobile devices.

First off, Razer’s new high-end Android gaming phone is set to be the first smartphone ever with a 120 Hz refresh rate display, which effectively doubles the device’s refresh rate capabilities over most other mobile phones. Additionally, the 5.7-inch LCD screen puts out a QHD 1440p resolution (2560×1440), while taking advantage of its UltraMotion technology in order to prevent screen tearing.

Powering the new Razer Phone is its Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. The high-end Android gaming phone also comes with dual front-facing speakers and dual amplifiers, all of which will be taking advantage of the device’s Dolby ATMOS technology, which has also been powering high-end movie theaters as of late. Speaking of sound, the Razer Phone is unfortunately shipping without a 3.5mm audio jack, not unlike Apple’s latest batch of iPhones. In its place, Razer is (of course) recommending its Bluetooth-enabled Razer Hammerhead BT headphones.

Of course, all of the above specs fail to matter if Razer drops the ball on the phone’s battery, which it thankfully doesn’t; the high-end Android phone comes equipped with a 4,000 mAh lithium-ion battery, which is absolutely on the higher end as far as battery capacity goes. The device also comes equipped with rapid charging through the phone’s USB-C port and the Qualcomm processor’s Quick Charge 4.0+ technology. That said, Razer has yet to provide any estimations on battery life under any circumstances, though the Razer Phone’s built-in Game Booster app will allow its users to tweak their phone’s performance levels. Think Power Saver, but for gamers.

While the Razer Phone’s camera isn’t necessarily high-end, it isn’t skimping either. The Razer Phone comes with two 12 megapixel cameras on the back, one that handles wide-angle shots and the other that comes with a 2x telephoto lens. The rear cameras also sport a dual tone, dual LED flash. The front-facing camera is 8 megapixels. Razer Phone owners can take as many photos as they like, thanks to the phone’s built-in 64GB of internal storage. Additionally, the Razer Phone also sports a microSD card slot, which can hold a maximum capacity of 2TB. All the above features are housed within the Razer Phone’s aluminum body, which measures out to be 6.2 x 3.1 x 0.3 inches, weighing 197 grams (almost 7 ounces).

Razer is currently accepting pre-orders through its official website, with an official launch date for the Razer Phone of November 17. The phone will be available for purchase in North America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Denmark, and Sweden for $700 USD / £700 GBP / €750 Euro. 1,337 special edition units will be available as well, which feature Razer’s iconic green logo.
