Rainbow Six Siege Cheaters Will Lose Their Rank And Rewards
Rainbow Six Siege has proven time and again their mission toward taking out abusive players, whether it be for using toxic language or outright game hacking. Ubisoft has made clear that swift bans and suspensions await anyone who willfully breaks the rules, but even those combined efforts aren’t enough to combat all exploitive behavior. The publisher recently outlined their efforts on the UbiBlog, warning cheaters that they could stand to lose even more when eventually caught.
Following a rundown of anti-cheat measures detailed earlier this month, the wide-reaching, cheater-blocking patch went live, rendering numerous notorious exploits obsolete. In the wake of this update, Ubisoft found that “approximately 1300 players” were utilizing some type of cheat software, with all offenders facing an instant 15-day suspension for their trouble. The developer also spoke of plans for a second round of punishment that would strip each cheating player of their rank and rewards, truly ringing the idea that cheaters should never win.
They will also not benefit from their illicit activities come the end of the Season. We are currently assessing how we will be delivering this from a technical side, but all players sanctioned for this will have their rank and rewards removed prior to the launch of Season 3.”
In addition to the proposed reset of rank and rewards, a secondary equalizer is also in the works that would adjust MMR gains/losses for all players unfortunate enough to have played against a cheater. This likely fan-pleasing feature is said to be in the final stages of design and will be rolled out once all the behind-the-scenes pieces fall into place.
On the topic of adjusting MMR gains/losses for matches with cheaters, we are finalizing the design next week. Once that is complete, we will meet to determine workload, personnel, and deadlines. We will then have a better idea of the timeline for this feature going live.
In a final note, Ubisoft laid out additional plans to implement a Two-Step Verification requirement for Ranked play, which is to be introduced in a patch sometime after the start of Season 3. While this release information is admittedly vague on Ubisoft’s part, they affirmed that a more concrete date will be put out once it becomes available.
It seems that Rainbow Six Siege is throwing down the gauntlet hard against cheaters, and the unfair practice is looking to be as uncomfortable for them as it normally is for other players on the battlefield. That seems to be the goal, at least! Rainbow Six Siege is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
