PS5 Could See 1440p Support Added “If It’s Requested Enough”

PS5 Hands-On Confirms Its Cooling Fans Run Silently After Extended Use

It was recently revealed that the upcoming PS5 will not offer support for 1440p resolution, which was a surprise to many as it has become one of the more popular resolutions to use. That said, it would appear that if there are enough people requesting it, Sony just might add it in the future.

Sony’s Hideaki Nishino recently spoke with AV.Watch (via Nibel) about the PS5 and the development that led to it being the console that it is today. During the interview, the absence of 1440p resolution support was brought up, with Nishino noting it could be something that is added later. “I want to give top priority to TV support,” Nishino said. “There is no technical problem at all.”

So, it would seem that it is entirely possible for Sony to add support for 1440p resolution on PS5, but they simply chose not to at launch. However, it is noted that if the feature is “requested enough,” Sony may add support in a future update. For the time being, TV support is the top priority. If enough fans request 1440p support, of course, it is very likely that Sony will add it. After all, the PS5 is going to be played on a myriad of displays, some of which will probably be better equipped for 1440p. Either way, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the next-gen console.

The PlayStation 5 is set to officially launch on November 12th and 19th, depending on which region you are in. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
