PlayStation Studios Banner Change Hints At Potential Acquisition
There’s been no shortage of studio acquisitions from both Microsoft and Sony as both companies continue to bulk up their roster of developers. While Microsoft seems to be on top thanks to its major acquisition of Bethesda, a recent change over on the PlayStation Studios website seems to suggest that Sony has acquired Hideo Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions.
The PlayStation Studios website banner has consistently featured first-party titles across the board. That said, the far left game – Concrete Genie, by PixelOpus – has just been replaced by Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding, which as of now is not publicly known to be a Sony-owned developer. Adding more fuel to the speculation is the simple fact that Death Stranding has been out for a couple years now, with the Director’s Cut having been available for a few months now. As such, the timing on the banner change seems questionable unless Sony has in fact acquired Kojima Productions.
PlayStation have updated their webpage and also the banner for PS Studios/Games. Concrete Genie removed for Death Stranding; The only game made by an independent studio!
Is this some sort of confirmation for Kojipro joining #PlayStation ? ? pic.twitter.com/4ltXhAtryX— Joe Miller (@JoeMiller101) April 13, 2022
It should be noted that Death Stranding was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, but it doesn’t explain away the fact that Death Stranding is now the one and only title featured on the PlayStation Studios banner that wasn’t developed by a first-party studio. It’s also worth noting that the PlayStation Studios banner has previously given us early confirmations of Sony acquisitions. Pairing that with the fact that Hideo Kojima and his team recently moved to a new studio location? Anything’s possible, and there’s every chance that Sony has finally decided to “put a ring on it,” so to speak.
