PlayStation 5 Will Feature More Exclusives Than Any Prior Generation
Sony’s Playstation platform has become known for its game exclusives over the past several years, with the company’s various triple-A PS4 titles enabling Sony to dominate the console war this past generation. That trend will seemingly continue on the PlayStation 5, with PlayStation boss Jim Ryan confirming that the new console will sport more exclusive games than any prior generation.
Speaking to Japanese financial site Nikkel (H/T VGC), Jim Ryan explained that Sony has been “quietly” investing in new first-party software, with the intent to ensure that the PlayStation 5 will feature more exclusives than what’s been seen on previous console generations. “We have been quietly but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation,” Ryan revealed.
We will make sure that the PS5 generation will have more dedicated software than ever before.”
This isn’t the only exciting news to come out of the Sony camp. Later on, Jim Ryan reveals that the company is continuing to engage in acquisition talks with third party developers, seemingly looking to even the playing field following Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda through ZeniMax. “We have repeatedly engaged in mergers and acquisitions, including Insomnia Games in the US,” Ryan said. “We will not rule out that option in the future.”
As for the PlayStation 5, the console already has a few exclusives in its pocket in the form of the Demon’s Souls Remake, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. That list will be growing shortly with the impending launch of Returnal, followed by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West, and the upcoming God of War sequel.
