Pillars Of Eternity 2: Deadfire’s First Expansion Arrives Next Month (VIDEO)
Obsidian Entertainment broke news of the first expansion to arrive for the hit sequel Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Titled Beast of Winter, players will venture to the “southernmost reaches of the Deadfire Archipelago” at the request of the residents and worshipers of Rymrgand. The Watcher must fulfill their role as Duskspeaker, battle creatures that “roam the beyond,” and bring an end to the ancient dragon that threatens Eora into a frozen wasteland.
As seen in the teaser for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire’s Beast of Winter expansion below, Rymrgand narrates his ambition for death and decay as he stands surrounded by gentle, pure snowfall.
Despite the dreary aesthetic, Obsidian Entertainment’s executive producer Alec Frey revealed to PCGamesN the consistent theme of humor behind Beast of Winter. “We obviously don’t want to make an incredibly depressing piece of DLC,” Frey explained. “It’s definitely an opportunity for us to show how people feel about this sort of thing, but also show the humor of it.”
The inhabitants of the island celebrate the player’s role as “the harbinger of the end,” despite the implications that may have on their lives. As long as the Duskspeaker fulfills their destiny as the bearer of destruction, they’re happy. Odd, yet endearing. Here’s the official synopsis on Beast of Winter:
Far in the southernmost reaches of the Deadfire Archipelago, frost and death have encroached upon the land of the living. You, Watcher, have received a missive from the isle’s residents: worshipers of Rymrgand, the god of entropy and disaster. They call you Duskspeaker, a harbinger of the end, and pray you fulfill your destiny.
Embark upon an adventure that will take you to Hel itself. Join forces with Vatnir, an Endings Godlike and Priest of Rymrgand, to bring battle to the monstrosities that roam the Beyond. Confront an ancient dragon, whom even the gods fear, before she brings Eora to an icy end.
Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is available now for PC. Meanwhile, the Beast of Winter expansion will arrive August 2nd, 2018. Obsidian Entertainment plans on releasing two other expansion for the game and to enjoy all three to your heart’s content, you may want to consider a season pass. If the commitment to the trio is too much, they can be purchased individually.
