Persona 6 Confirmed, Atlus Seeks To “Exceed Persona 5” Despite Development Hurdles
It’s been a few years now since Persona 5 graced the West, with the game’s overwhelming popularity casting aside most of the doubts developer Atlus had about bringing the franchise overseas. Now, with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the franchise taking place throughout the year, Atlus is kicking things up a notch with the announcement that Persona 6 is very much a thing, with the developer promising to do its best to have the game exceed its numbered predecessor.
Confirmation that Persona 6 is in the works comes from the folks over at Persona Central, which reported on a recently posted recruitment page from developer Atlus. Included on the page is some commentary from the staff, including a statement from Atlus director Naoto Hiraoka who confirms that Persona 6 is one of the next things the team is working on. “Thanks to the large amount of support we received for “Persona 5,” we have gotten a sense of accomplishment,” Hiraoka said. “But we can’t stop there. When we created “Persona 4,” there was pressure that it had to exceed “Persona 3.””
Now, we will have to create a “6” which exceeds “5.” However, exceeding “5” will be difficult with the current staff. I would like to surpass this tall hurdle with everyone who joins us in this recruitment. The workplace is perfect for those who want a creative challenge when it comes to bringing games to the world.”
While no information about Persona 6 is shared on the page, fans will likely hear something about the game thanks to the ongoing 25th anniversary celebration. The website for said event is now live, and it confirms that the first of seven major announcements will take place this September, with the final announcement planned for Fall 2022. Since it seems like Persona 6 is still early on in development based on Hiraoka’s message, it is likely that an official reveal will take place at some point next year by Fall 2022.
