Persona 5: The Royal Trailer Reveals New Phantom Thief, Release Date (VIDEO)

Love for the hugely popular Persona series was on full display during Day 1 of the Persona Super LIve 2019 concert, which saw tons of artists performing songs from Persona 5. The icing on the proverbial cake came towards the end of the show, when Atlus revealed that Persona 5: The Royal will actually be an expanded version of the original game, featuring new gameplay, characters, activities, and more. The news came by way of a full length trailer, which can be seen below:

As shown above, the characters we’ve all come to know and love are back in full force, with the expansion adding two core characters to the game. The first is Yoshizawa Kasumi, a fellow student and a new Phantom Thief. The other character is Takuto Maruki, Shujin Academy’s (clearly underpaid) school counselor.

Characters aren’t the only new additions, as the trailer also reveals several new locations for Joker to visit (and presumably invite people to), as well as new activities to try out with your fellow Phantom Thieves. Said activities include billiards and darts, and it is likely that some of the existing activities in Persona 5 may also be somehow expanded upon. Additionally, new ranged and melee attacks are shown for metaverse gameplay, as well as a few interesting looking environmental traversal tools for Joker. Grappling hook? Yes please.

Persona 5: The Royal will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, and will feature advanced PS4 Pro optimization. The release date is listed as October 31, 2019 for Japan, with the title releasing worldwide at some point in 2020.
