Nintendo President Addresses Persona 5 Nintendo Switch Rumors

Gamers were undeniably shocked when it was announced during The Game Awards that Joker from Persona 5 would soon be joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Joker’s reveal as the first post-launch fighter represents a stark reminder that anything is possible when it comes to Smash, something fans initially learned when Solid Snake joined the series way back when.

Now that a Persona 5 character is officially making their way onto the Nintendo Switch, rumors have begun to circulate suggesting that the game may also be getting ported over to the Big N’s latest console. While there is certainly the possibility for that to happen, nothing has been made official yet, and Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime has issued a statement in regards to the rumors.

While speaking with IGN, Fils-Aime responded to the question of whether or not Persona 5 would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch. “You know, I can’t comment on that,” he began. “Again, from our perspective, we’ve been clear. We want all the best content on our platform. All the best content, all the best developers.

And so our job is to continue growing the install base for Nintendo Switch to drive engagement of our players, to grow the audience. As that happens, then developers see the opportunity.”

The president’s reply is certainly a measured one, though it also leaves the door open for a possible Persona 5 port for the Switch somewhere down the line. The title has been hugely successful, prompting an anime adaptation and loads of official merchandise, so it would only be natural for Nintendo to take advantage of this and bring the game to the Switch. Here’s hoping we’ll hear something about it in 2019.

Persona 5 is now available for PlayStation 4, as well as for the PlayStation 3.
