Overwatch’s Junkrat Likely Receiving Some Changes When PTR Returns

Junkrat

Everyone’s favorite Australian demolitions expert might be receiving a few tweaks soon. Junkrat may be loved by many, but he doesn’t quite receive the same attention in advanced or professional levels of play that he does in quickplay or the arcade. This could very well be due to the fact that his style is a bit sporadic and his mobility definitely has some issues. Thankfully, Overwatch principle designer Geoff Goodman has recently taken to the Battle.net forums to assure fans some changes for the character are on the way.

User GreyFalcon outlined suggested changes to Junkrat’s concussion mine and trap. They proposed that the mine’s damage be reduced to 90 and the cooldown be reduced to four seconds. GreyFalcon claims this will greatly improve Junkrat’s mobility issues as well as increase survivability with being able to use the concussion mine more frequently. As luck would have it, this proposal is rather close to what is already in the works for Junkrat. Here’s what Geoff had to say:

Currently on our internal builds Junkrat has 2 charges of his Concussion Mine. This allows you to do all kinds of cool stuff like launch yourself into a fight and still have a charge to escape with, or launch yourself up into a Pharah and still have a charge to try and kill her with. Previously this was possible before but you had to plant one on the ground and then wait for the cooldown to come back before doing this. That is still possible, which allows for a triple jump now if you want/need that, but now it is a lot more reliable to do with 2. It has been a ton of fun to play with so far.”

Goodman also mentions that they are looking at refining his ultimate ability. “We’re experimenting with a movement speed increase or a health increase on the tire. We wouldn’t do both things but in either case it should be more reliable to use in more situations.” These changes are expected to be present when the Public Test Realm returns, but when that will happen is currently unknown.
