Overwatch’s Horizon Lunar Colony Map Release Date Announced (VIDEO)
Just because Overwatch‘s Anniversary Event has officially wrapped up, that doesn’t mean players have to stop celebrating. Some of you may have obtained glorious loot during the extravaganza that will live on in-game. We were even introduced to new maps and modes that will keep the title fresh for the coming months. During the event, however, another map was revealed: Horizon Lunar Colony. As one can assume by the name, it most certainly takes place on the moon.
The new Overwatch map has spent a bit of quality time in the Public Test Realm(PTR). This is where players have been able to learn everything about Horizon Lunar Colony, discover its little Easter eggs, and even try their hand at a bit of low-gravity action. When the map was first introduced last month, the developer update that came along with it had game director Jeff Kaplan mentioning how a map of complete low-gravity was absolute chaos. That is why the entirety of Horizon Lunar Colony isn’t equipped with this feature. Anyway, thanks to a video recently uploaded to the PlayOverwatch YouTube channel, we now know when the map will go live. Check it out below:
That’s right – the Horizon Lunar Colony map will be hitting the game on June 20 for all Overwatch players to enjoy. That is, of course, if you didn’t get the chance to play with it in PTR. The video also gives fans a nice behind the scenes of how the new map was made, which Blizzard so often does. Gamers can always appreciate this.
When Horizon Lunar Colony was teased back in May, another potential hero was revealed. Hammond was also able to escape with Winston when things went awry aboard the station. Winston, our beloved peanut butter loving scientist, escaped to Earth, but there has been no sign of this mysterious Hammond, or even what they are. Human? Gorilla? Something else entirely? Only time will tell, but until then, you can check out a little bit of gameplay on the new map down below:
What are your thoughts, heroes? Excited that the new map is finally inbound? Did you get a chance to check it out in PTR? What is the deal with the elusive Hammond?
