Overwatch has announced a new holiday event celebrating New Years from the Eastern side of the world, with Mei’s new skin complete with a Qipao (traditional red dress), red envelopes, and overall Chinese New Year theme, Year of the Rooster! Specifications on what kind of event it will be have not been confirmed, except for this adorable post from Overwatch’s official Twitter. Check it out below!

Overwatch Korea also announced this event, showcasing a D.Va skin that can be expected as well. More than likely, it will be available in North American servers. It would be silly, if that were not the case! As seen below, D.Va is wearing a slightly less than traditional Korean dress called a Hanbok. Typically, the skirts are much longer, with hems that hit the floor. They can be as simple and ornate as the wearer wants – depending on the occasion.

Most Asian countries have their own new year celebration, following a slightly different schedule compared to Western ones. Thankfully, the team at Overwatch and Blizzard took this into consideration. As a Southeast Asian individual, myself, it’s great to see it brought to life in a video game!

Players and fans are left to wait until January 24th to see what Blizzard has in store. The event will run from January 24th and ends on February 13th. Until then, stay tuned with Don’t Feed the Gamers! More than likely, there will be new and varied voice lines introduced. No doubt that some maps will be seeing some changes.
