The Overwatch Anniversary Event Has Arrived – New Legendary Skins, Maps, and More! (VIDEO)

The time has come for the Overwatch Anniversary Event to be upon us. Lasting until June 12, the extravaganza is meant to celebrate the popular game’s first year, and it brings a ton of new goodies for players to enjoy. New maps, skins, emotes, player icons, sprays, and game modes are available for heroes to obtain and play. Let’s dive into the glorious details about the event. For justice!

Loot boxes will be aplenty with the new event, and each will contain something wonderful for players to enjoy. Also arriving are three new maps that have appeared in Arcade, each of which is an arena-type area. Black Forest, Necropolis, and Castillo are small maps that invoke close-quarters combat, and they will continue on in-game after the Overwatch Anniversary Event is finished. Each of these can be seen in the gallery below:

Some may remember the potential for dance emotes that was rumored recently, and such a thing has been confirmed. Each of the characters has one, which is surely going to result in some hilarious videos in the future. The dance emotes for each of the heroes can be seen right here. Also being made available with the Overwatch Anniversary Event are a plethora of new, wait for it… Legendary skins. The heroes receiving one of these glorious looks will be: D.Va, Mei, Zarya, Genji, Hanzo, Lúcio, Bastion, Soldier 76, Symmetra(finally), Tracer, and Pharah. Check them out in the gallery below:

There are also a couple of new game types available to play. The new Lockout mode features 3v3 combat, but when a team wins, whichever characters they were using will not be available again throughout the match, essentially locking them out. Limited Duel is 1v1 and only allows players to select from a randomized group of three heroes, with each round offering a different set to choose from. The development team has also changed 3v3 Elimination mode in an attempt to limit ties. A capture point will become available after a set amount of time, instead of revealing each player. This will force heroes out of hiding and end matches much quicker without ties.

On top of all of this, the Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition has arrived as a digital re-release. You can pick it up for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. If you are still unsure whether or not Overwatch is your thing, a free weekend will be available across all platforms from May 26-29. Happy Anniversary, Overwatch team!
