Overwatch 2 Reportedly In The Works
From receiving high praises as Game of the Year in 2016, eventually establishing an Overwatch League with an official beer sponsor, to the continued success and seasonal events per year, Overwatch become a whopping success in the games industry. After three years since its launch and as we round the corner to one of the biggest exhibitions of the year, rumor has it that an Overwatch 2 is in the works.
Official news hasn’t yet circulated the web. However, based on a report by Kotaku, it’s currently circulating that Activision Blizzard is working on Overwatch 2 and other mainline properties under their umbrella. As it stands, the claims don’t have substantial evidence to back it up, but it’s revealed that the sequel will have a notable PvE (Player Versus Environment). Even if the rumor stands, there’s no telling what the actual title of Overwatch 2 will be.
With that said, what does that spell for the future of Overwatch League? Can’t the developers continue updating the game without a sequel? If the report is to be believe, it’s likely that the organization will build on the current foundation. Perhaps the current proprietary engine is unable to support their future goals for the franchise, and development of an Overwatch 2 will solve that.
What do you think about Activision Blizzard working on the development of an Overwatch 2?
